Jay-Z’s Marcy Ventures has bolstered its Black buying power by merging with the investment arm of Pendulum Holdings, which was founded by former Barack Obama adviser Robbie Robinson.

In a move that has sent ripples through the investment world, the strategic alliance creates a powerhouse with over $1 billion in assets, according to a report from Black Enterprise. The merger between Marcy Ventures and Pendulum Holdings into MarcyPen is poised to make significant investments in diverse and promising ventures.  

Founded in 2018 by Jay-Z, along with Jay Brown and Larry Marcus, MVP has established itself as a prominent player in the venture capital arena. 

The firm focuses on early-stage investments in companies with strong brand values, high customer satisfaction, and demonstrable growth potential. MVP’s portfolio boasts successful investments in companies like Partake Foods, known for its allergy-friendly snacks, and Savage X Fenty, Rihanna’s inclusive lingerie line.  

Pendulum Holdings: a focus on diverse investments

Pendulum Holdings, founded by Robbie and D’Rita Robinson, brings a unique perspective to the merger. Robbie Robinson’s background as a financial advisor to Barack Obama, coupled with D’Rita’s expertise, has shaped Pendulum’s investment strategy. 

The firm prioritizes investments in companies that align with its values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Pendulum’s portfolio includes investments in companies like Fly by Jing, a Chinese food brand, and Saltbox, a co-working and warehouse space provider.
