A New York City home aide is on the run after being caught beating an elderly woman. On July 21, 2024, Harlem resident Dorothy Foye was attacked as her granddaughters watched in horror. Her family had installed Nest and Ring cameras throughout Foye’s apartment and could access real-time footage through mobile apps.

The aide hit Foye multiple times, at one point even with a pot. She eventually fell to the ground, holding her walker. She tried to fight back.

Mitchell was in New Jersey when the attack happened. “It was a nightmare,” Michelle Mitchell, one of Foye’s granddaughters, told ABC. “It was horrific. It was one of the worst days of my life.”

She added, “It was so unreal to me, that someone could punch somebody like they were beating them down.”

The home healthcare worker was hired to assist Foye, who uses a walker and an oxygen tank. “She could hardly stand up. She has her oxygen in her nose. She’s on a walker. She was trying to keep her balance,” Tiffany Mitchell, another of Foye’s granddaughters, told CBS. “She was helpless. She was like a helpless baby.”

“If I said I feel good I would be lying,” the 95-year-old told CBS. “I was trying to fight back, but, you know, I’m weak. I can’t fight that big woman.”

Aside from hitting Foye, the aide was otherwise being abusive. “I heard this woman screaming at her, cursing, saying the most obscene things. She was cursing her out,” Mitchell said. “She was taking water bottles and juice bottles and cans and throwing them at my grandmother. She was just, like, walking around; she would toss something, then she would disappear.”

For many days afterward, Foye said she still had aches and pains throughout her body and couldn’t lift one of her arms.

The aide was employed by Medflyt at Home Health Care Agency. “We’re doing an internal investigation, alongside the New York City Police Department, and are cooperating with authorities,” the company stated to ABC.

The family told CBS they want to take action against Medflyt as well. In the meantime, they’ve hired a new worker from a different agency.

Foye shared with CBS her wishes for the attendant. “I would like to beat her myself. Get somebody to beat her like she did me,” Foye said.

The home aide caught beating an elderly woman in Harlem has yet to be located. So far, no arrests have been made.
