Today, two candidates campaigning to be Tulsa’s next Mayor will step into Black Wall Street’s Historic Vernon A.M.E. Church to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the community.
The Mayoral Forum in north Tulsa will feature Commissioner Karen Keith and Representative Monroe Nichols on October 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 311 N. Greenwood Ave., Tulsa, OK. Open to the public, the event will give center stage to Nichols and Keith discussing their vision and strategies for the future of Tulsa hosted by the North Tulsa Pastors Coalition.
This event is an opportunity to engage in the process of choosing Tulsa’s next Mayor and understanding why each candidate believes they are the best choice for the future of the city.
The forum will also feature special participation from the “Divine 9,” representing the historically Black fraternities and sororities.

More on the Candidates: Monroe Nichols
Nichols aspires to make Tulsa the safest big city in America, and he plans on enacting policies to reduce crime by focusing on intervention strategies, neighborhood revitalization initiatives, and addressing the mental health crisis in the community.
Nichols wants to end homelessness as we know it by 2030 through policies that involve increasing affordable housing in Tulsa, creating a citywide system of mental and substance abuse support, and reducing the eviction rate in the city. He also has a vision for law-barrier shelter capacity.
Nichols wants to ensure that families are on a pathway to economic mobility from the time their children enter school. He also wants to ensure access to high-quality child care while supporting well-functioning school boards. Nichols wants to invest in our educators and increase housing stability for students. He also has a focus on policy for mental health outcomes for children and families.
In four years, it is Nichol’s goal to reduce blighted properties by 60%. He also would like to increase affordable housing stock by 6,000 units in that same year.
Nichols wants to acknowledge and stand with tribal sovereignty, making Tulsa a thriving and welcoming community for Native cultures

More on the Candidates: Karen Keith
Keith would like to address homelessness by investing in supportive housing, integrating wraparound services, opening a new low-barrier shelter, and ensuring that new housing developments contribute to a reduction in homelessness.
As she plans to reduce the homeless population she hopes to improve public safety by providing a comprehensive response from the police force to that demographic. Keith also aims to address comprehensive responses to mental health and increase the number of police in Tulsa.
She wishes to foster collaborations between the city and educational institutions to ensure local control of public education. She also has a focus on street infrastructure and improving project completion time while supporting small businesses affected by that roadwork.
Keith believes the City of Tulsa must work in partnership with all tribal nations and also wants to foster economic growth and support diverse housing development in Tulsa by streamlining permitting processes, expediting project approvals, and enhancing developer support through innovative practices.
