On Friday At Waldorf, Maryland’s Charles County Public School, a fourth grader allegedly “hung” a second-grader in the boys’ bathroom, according to the victim’s parents, who rushed him to the hospital.

The second grader’s parents say the older boy, whom they allege was a bully, said “I’m going to show you how I did people back in the day.”

The disturbing incident left the 7-year-old boy hospitalized with a neck injury, resulting in blunt trauma.

The mother took to social media sharing the details of the incident, stating “The principal went into the bathroom & found my baby foaming out the mouth & unconscious. I walked into the trauma room with 8-10 doctors surrounding my son.”

She goes on to mention how bullying is not acceptable and is grateful that her child is still alive after the incident.

“If you look at my son, he has marks under his eyes, like blood vessels, he still has bruises on his neck from being choked… He’s traumatized. It’s going to take time. This  is not something he’s going to just get over overnight.”, exclusively told to WUSA9.

Charles County Public School Speaks Out

The school put forth a statement, informing parents about the incident.

They described the students as “horse playing” and said the school cannot disclose details about the situation.

“This afternoon, two of our students were reportedly horse playing in a school bathroom when one student’s jacket got caught on a stall door hook. The student was not able to free themselves and the other student involved was also not able to help them. This student left the bathroom to seek help from staff and reported the incident to administrators. Administrators responded and were able to assist, but staff called 911 for additional precautionary medical support.”

The statement from Charles County Public Schools seems to downplay the severity of the situation, which has left the boy’s parents feeling frustrated and angry.

Parents Have Questions for the School

Not satisfied with the school’s response, the parents still have questions that they want answered.

“It doesn’t make sense to me. If you’re horse playing, how do you get caught on a hook? Like we need answers, I want answers, and we won’t stop till we get answers.”

His mother wants more safety for the children, such as hallway monitors to see what kids are doing at school.

“I want to see a policy in place, at least hallway monitors. I want to know why is a fourth grader in the same bathroom as a second grader? Most schools have them divided,” the mother stated.

The Charles County Public School responds again

On Sunday, the Charles County Public Schools Superintendent issued a statement in response to our reporting.

As with any incident in any of our schools, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) cannot legally release personally identifiable information about students. This includes specific details about incidents…I have seen the comments online stating that the school and the CCPS are covering up what happened. That is not true. The principal nor the school system are hiding anything.”

Since the horrific incident, the mother has removed her child from the school. By sharing their side of the story, the parents hope to spread awareness about their son’s situation to prevent any situations like this from occurring in the future.
