HOUSTON, Tex.–Every year, Texas Southern University is swept up in the glamour of lights and football, captivated by the athletes, the plays, and the action on the field. Behind the scenes, however, TSU’s social media squad—a dedicated group of individuals—is working to immortalize each moment, preserving the essence of the game for years to come.

Among this talented team, few have shown more dedication or focus than TSU senior Natalia Coreas. Over the last two seasons, Coreas has been on a mission to share the true story of TSU’s football team, contributing to the program’s goal of being known for more than just athletics at a historically Black college (HBCU).

“Being at an HBCU and not having the advanced funding and equipment like some bigger schools, we are blessed to have talented individuals who are passionate about capturing the grind and work ethic our players and staff bring to the program,” Coreas told the Black Wall Street Times.

“We all work well together, we all learn from each other, and we’ve created strong bonds within the program. This family-oriented atmosphere makes the social media side—and the program itself—feel more special,” Coreas said.

TSU media team captures moments that matter

A unique aspect of TSU’s media team is its approach to storytelling: emphasizing small, often-overlooked moments and transforming them into powerful visuals that resonate with viewers. For Coreas, it isn’t just about filming games; it’s about bringing the heart of TSU’s football program to life.

“A moment that was really impactful for me was capturing the PV game,” Coreas said, recalling an unforgettable match against Prairie View. “We spent all summer preparing—shooting photos, creating content, brainstorming ideas specifically for this game. Getting that win was the cherry on top, and capturing everyone’s raw reactions and energy was a blast. As I edited those moments, they just kept replaying in my head,” Correas said.

Beyond the big moments, Coreas and her team have embraced the deeper, often personal stories that extend beyond the gridiron.

“We’ve been trying to put a more personal touch on our content,” she explained. “Over the summer, we did a men’s mental health post that I feel was very impactful. During October, we focused on breast cancer and domestic violence awareness, creating reels to educate students on campus. I got to film and edit that content, and it was rewarding to see our players off the field, engaged in causes beyond football,” Coreas said.

Beyond the scoreboard

TSU’s social media squad isn’t just documenting the sport; they’re building a legacy. Each post, photograph, and story captures not only the pride of being part of an HBCU but also the spirit of unity and resilience that defines Texas Southern University.

For Coreas, it’s a passion project—a way to give the TSU football team a voice that resonates far beyond the field.

As TSU’s season unfolds, Coreas and the social media team remain focused, weaving every tackle, victory, and candid moment into a tapestry that represents more than just sports. It’s a testament to the power of community, dedication, and school pride, captured through the lens of those who see beyond the scoreboard.
