My dad, Monroe Nichols, is running to be Tulsa’s next mayor.
You’ve probably heard his name, seen one of his yard signs, or caught his commercial on TV. But I wanted to tell you about who my dad is as a person – and why he will be an amazing mayor for Tulsa.
My dad announced he was running for mayor over a year ago. He’s spent every day since then meeting with people across our city, talking with them about their dreams for Tulsa, and telling them about his vision for our future.
It hasn’t been easy. Even though my dad was a star football player, a well known community leader, and a successful state representative, he came into this race as the underdog.
He could have stayed in a safe seat in the legislature, fighting for us from the state capitol. But he took a leap of faith and jumped into this race last August because he believes in our city, and he believes in us.
My dad has never been just another politician. He’s a neighbor, a son, and a father who went into public service to give back to our city and to make life better for everyone. And even when he’s busier than he’s been in his entire life, he’s always put the people he cares most about before himself.
Just recently, his friend was in a bad car accident and had to be in the hospital for several days. Even though my dad had a packed campaign schedule, he immediately put that aside and made time to see his friend.
He’s done the same thing for me when I’ve had an important game or event; dropping everything to show up for me.
Because that’s who my dad is. He’s one of the most caring and loyal people you could ever meet.
And that’s the kind of mayor he’ll be for our city. He will always put the people of Tulsa before his career and before politics, just like in the state legislature – fighting to protect Tulsa kids, our public schools, our rights, and our futures. And my dad knows how to get things done by working with people he may not always agree with. He finds ways to compromise without compromising what he believes in.
He has the experience, the vision, and the passion to lead our city and make positive changes in the lives of everyone who calls it home.
There is no one who believes in Tulsa and its people more than my dad. And if he has the chance to be our next mayor, I know he will work harder than anyone to make our city the best city in the country.
