A convicted felon cannot vote for who will become the next president, yet somehow Donald Trump is permitted to lead the nation again.

A world where we doubt the capabilities of a woman because her opponent is a man. Living in a country where misogyny is still alive and present, America I am angry at myself for expecting you to change.

The place where a history of racism and sexual assault is prevalent by the Republican candidate, but gets swept under the rug and still manages to become our next president.

Disbelief by the Results

I woke up Wednesday morning in utter disbelief and with a heavy heart. Let down again by this country. It seems like a repeated pattern.

It was foolish of me to think that Americans learned from Donald Trump’s last presidency. When hope for the future is presented, we turn a blind eye. But as a Black woman, this election hurts more than any one before.

Seeing a woman of color who is overly qualified to lead the country, coming second to a man who wants to take away the rights of women: The fact is that that our next president believes women and doctors should both be punished for abortions.

A man having ultimate power over a woman’s body. Yet, this is the same man who spoke about women and said, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”’

Was electing felon Trump worth it?

To the 54% of men who voted for Trump, imagine if that was your mother, daughter, or wife he was talking about. How do you feel knowing that you voted for a man who views women as objects?

For the 44% of women who voted for felon Trump, do you realize the harm you’ve done?

We placed the vote for our future within a man who has been impeached twice and indicted four times. All because society refuses to accept a woman with power, unwilling to see her as anything other than second in command.

The Future of America

As for the future of our country, I truly do not know what to expect. I feel defeated, knowing I have to wake up every day, not knowing what laws may change next.

Making history for the wrong reasons, as he will become the first convicted felon and insurrectionist to hold office. Leaving the country in the hands of a man who has repeatedly proven that he is unfit to lead, Trump continues to disappoint the people he supposedly seeks to protect.

As a nation, when there is hope for progress, we find ourselves moving in the opposite direction.

This is America.
