GREENWOOD Dist. – From Tuesday, July 16 to Friday, July 19, approximately 50 teachers from 30 elementary and secondary schools will participate in the 2nd annual Tulsa Public Schools’ Tulsa Race Massacre Teacher Institute. This professional learning opportunity will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Wilson Teaching & Learning Academy (2710 E. 11th St.).

Participants will learn about the destruction of the Greenwood community during the Tulsa Race Massacre, visit Greenwood sites, practice strategies to facilitate difficult conversations about history and develop lessons to use in their classrooms. 

2nd annual Tulsa Public Schools’ Tulsa Race Massacre Teacher Institute

The Tulsa Race Massacre Institute will be facilitated and lead by Karlos Hill and Tamara Lebak.

On Tuesday at 9 a.m., teachers will hear from Tulsa author and historian Hannibal Johnson, who has written extensively about the Greenwood District, Black Wall Street, and the Tulsa Race Massacre. Johnson is also a contributor on the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission.
