TULSA, Okla.—The non-profit Circle Cinema announces two great music movies showing in August. “Purple Rain”, the classic 1984 rock-drama starring Prince, will play for one night only on Thursday August 5, 7:30pm.

“Purple Rain”, originally released in 1984, helped make Prince a household name en route to winning an Oscar for Best Music and three Grammys. Prince stars as The Kid in a semi-biographical role, a Minneapolis musician on the rise with his band the Revolution, escaping a tumultuous home life through music.

While trying to avoid making the same mistakes as his truculent father, the Kid navigates the club scene and a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia. But another musician, Morris, looks to steal the Kid’s spotlight — and his girl. The film is rated R with a runtime of 111 minutes.

“Without Getting Killed or Caught”, a new documentary about folk singer Guy Clark, will open with a special screening on Friday August 20, 7:30pm. Both events will include a social hour in Circle Cinema’s Gallery starting at 6:30pm with bar service and pre-film trivia with vinyl album giveaways and prizes hosted by Steve Higgins, Circle Cinema Board Member. 

As part of Circle Cinema’s COVID safety protocols following CDC guidelines, masks are required for all guests and seating capacity is reduced to allow for social distancing. Hand sanitizer is readily available throughout the theater, and HVAC air filtration has been upgraded to higher MERV standards.
