An Iranian student walked outside her university in her bra and underwear before officials arrested her Sunday.

The unidentified woman, who attends Tehran Islamic Azad University, claims that members of the Basij, an Iranian supporter paramilitary group, assaulted her.

The student began stripping off her clothing to protest the injustice of the strict Islamic Republic dress code.

The viral video was first reported by an Iranian student social media channel, known as “The Amir Kabir newsletter.” The footage showcases the woman walking the streets with her arms crossed back and fourth, as by standers watched in disbelief.

The woman seen in public without her headscarf or loose-fitting clothing is a violation of Islamic law dress code, which women must obey or will endure severe punishment. At many universities, patrol officers monitor students, checking if they are wearing their required headscarf. According to the The Amir Kabir newsletter, Iranian officials beat her during her arrest.

Tehran Islamic Azad University claims Iranian student suffers from mental health problems

Amir Mahjob, director general of public relations, stated that authorities arrested the woman for partaking in an “indecent act.” In the online statement, he claimed that the motives behind her actions are still under investigation.

Mahjob alleges the Iranian student told officials she suffers from several mental health issues and had a disorder. Moreover, he hopes the arrest will not impact the reputation and family matters of the woman, a single mother of two children.

According to Hamshahri Daily, a reliable source reported that officials transported her to a mental health hospital.

The violent arrest of the Iranian student reinforces her reason for protesting at the university. The strict dress code regulations prevent women from freely expressing themselves. As a result, the women feel pressured to live a life of confinement for fear of being beaten.

One reply on “Iranian student strips clothes in solo protest, leads to her arrest”

  1. Despite naked protests and such, Islamic Republic of Iran is a sovereign nation.
We, as Americans, have too many problems in America. I hope Black women do not take on a foreign, sovereign issue.
