As presidential nominees Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump make their final pitches to voters on the campaign trail, polls show Harris with a slight lead just 13 days from Election Day.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday showed Democrat VP Harris with a 46% to 43% lead over Republican Donald Trump. It marks little change from previous polling in recent days, but with a margin of error of 2 percentage points, the election remains tight. Any advantage Trump or Harris gains in key swing states will ultimately decide the winner.

So far, over 18 million Americans had already early voted ahead of the high-stakes Tuesday, Nov. 5 contest, the Associated Press reported. Despite recent severe storms, early voters shattered records in places like Georgia and North Carolina, two of seven key swing states that will ultimately decide the election.

In total, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada will be key to delivering the 270 electoral college votes necessary to win the 2024 Presidential Election.

While Harris leads Trump nationally, Trump is ahead in the polls in a majority of swing states. For instance, he leads in Georgia, Nevada, Arizona and North Carolina. Harris is ahead in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Combined, if Trump wins these four states in which he’s ahead, it would amount to 49 electoral votes versus 44 from the three key swing states in which Harris leads.

Harris campaign embraces Black voters and Republicans

For her part, Kamala Harris continues a moderate pitch to attract suburban Republican women and former Nikki Haley voters, while maintaining her base of support among Black men and women.

Her recent appearances on Black-led radio shows, town halls and Souls to the Polls church tours have coincided with proposals directed at providing support to Black entrepreneurs and new families.

Meanwhile, at a campaign event with Republican Liz Cheney in Royal Oak, Michigan on Monday, Harris contrasted her career as a prosecutor and attorney general with Trump’s previous attempt to overthrow the 2020 election and his divisive, often racist rhetoric.

“Do we take seriously the importance of a president who obeys the oath to be loyal to the Constitution of the United States?  Do we prioritize a president of the United States who cares about rule of law, much less the spirit with which they approach this most powerful position,” Harris asked voters Monday.

Trump continues to call Democrats “enemy of the people” ahead of Election Day

On the other hand, Trump has focused on firing up his base of conservatives and young men disaffected with the Democratic Party. Instead of toning down his rhetoric to appeal to moderate voters, he continues to cast some Americans and Democratic rivals as enemies of the country.

“These are bad people. We have a lot of bad people. But when you look at ‘Shifty’ Shift and some of the others. Yeah, they are to me the enemy from within. I think Nancy Pelosi is an enemy from within,” Trump told Fox News Sunday, referring to former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“You have to tell Kamala Harris that you’ve had enough, that you just can’t take it anymore. We can’t stand you. You’re a sh*t vice president. You’re the worst vice president. Kamala you’re fired. Get the hell out of here,” Trump told a rally of supporters in Pennsylvania Sunday.

VP Harris responded in an interview with Al Sharpton on MSNBC.

“What you see in my opponent, a former president of the United States, really it demeans the office,” Harris said. “Donald Trump should never again stand behind the seal of the President of the United States. He’s not earned the right. He’s not earned the right, and that’s why he’s gonna lose.”

On Saturday, Harris will join former First Lady Michelle Obama at a campaign event in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
