JD Vance, a man who has spent less than eighteen months in elected office, could soon be a heartbeat away from becoming President of the United States.
Vance, who launched his career authoring the bestselling book Hillbilly Elegy, is officially Trump’s choice for Vice President. In 2022, he won his US Senate race in Ohio by a relatively narrow margin. Since joining the Senate, Vance has spent most of his time working to undermine efforts to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia and acting as a spokesperson in support of Donald Trump.
Just last month, he also introduced a bill that would eliminate DEI programs within the federal government.

The VP announcement comes less than 48 hours after a would-be assassin’s bullet narrowly missed killing the former President.
Moments after the assassination attempt, JD Vance issued what many have condemned as an inflammatory and false statement.
“Today is not just some isolated incident,” he wrote on Twitter (X).
“The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.”
Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger said he believed Vance’s statement should ‘disqualify’ him from consideration as Trump’s VP.
Trump’s selection of JD Vance makes him a Vice Presidential nominee with a remarkably short political resume. It also muddles Trump’s call over the last 48 hours to lower the heated political rhetoric in the country.
Still, Vance’s selection is likely to bolster Trump, not only in Ohio, but in key swing states like Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia. Vance, who once called Trump “America’s Hitler”, has leaned into his upbringing in Appalachia.
At just 39 years old, JD Vance will be one of the youngest Vice Presidential nominees in the country’s history.
