TULSA, Okla.–Birthright Living Legacy, an organization dedicated to supporting fathers across the state of Oklahoma, will host a park crawl for busy dads to enjoy time with their kids Saturday, September 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Whiteside Park Community Center.

The Tulsa-based organization’s mission involves “celebrating and supporting fathers by equipping them with the tools and resources to lead successful families,” according to its website. Founders Marquess Dennis is on a mission to ensure dads aren’t pouring from an empty cup.

Providing fatherhood support, educational programs, and community involvement opportunites, Birthright Living Legacy seeks to create positive parenting cycles.

Saturday’s park crawl creates a public space for dads who don’t get much time with their children due to “work, travel or other visitation hurdles,” the event flyer states.

To register for the event, scan the QR code on the flyer above or visit this link. There are no tickets needed, and all parents are welcome. However, a dad must be present to win prizes.

Birthright Living Legacy grows with statewide support

A study from the Centers for Disease Control shows Black fathers are more likely to be involved in their childrens’ lives compared to white or Hispanic dads.

The 2013 National Health Statistics Report 70% of Black fathers who lived with their children were likely to bathe, dress, change or help their child with the toilet everyday compared to 60% of white fathers and 45% of Hispanic fathers.

In March, hundreds attended the organization’s Oklahoma Fatherhood Summit in Tulsa. High-profile speakers such as Governor Kevin Stitt attended, showing the support across the state.

“We are focused on making sure that fathers know year-round what all the tools and resources are that are available at their disposal,” Dennis said, according to 2 News.
