A former Louisville police officer has pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge relating to the death of Breonna Taylor.
Kelly Hanna Goodlett was arrested by FBI agents earlier this month for her role in the cover up attempt related to the killing of Breonna Taylor.
Goodlett appeared in a federal courtroom in Louisville Tuesday afternoon and admitted to conspiring with another Louisville police officer to falsify the search warrant.
At the press conference announcing the arrests, Attorney General Merrick Garland said that Goodlett met with Joshua Jaynes in a garage to come up with a false story.
“We allege that defendants [Joshua] Jaynes and [Kelly Hanna] Goodlett conspired to knowingly falsify an investigative document…those two defendants met in a garage where they agreed to tell investigators a false story,” Garland said.
Louisville Officer faces up to five years in prison
Goodlett resigned from the Louisville Police Department a day after AG Garland announced the arrests, over two years after the death of Breonna Taylor.
Former officers Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany were indicted on charges related to the warrant used to search Taylor’s home. A third former officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with using excessive force when he retreated from Taylor’s door, turned a corner and fired 10 shots into the side of her two-bedroom apartment. He was acquitted by a jury on similar state charges earlier this year. Jaynes, Meany and Hankison have all been fired.
Despite no officers being held responsible by the state for their role in Breonna Taylor’s death, the city of Louisville paid out a $12 million settlement to her family.
Louisville Officer Goodlett faces up to five years in prison for her conviction, and will be sentenced late November.
