Will someone please tell Ms. Sarah Huckabee Sanders that echoing former president Donald Trump’s dangerous rhetoric is too divisive for a nation that just experienced a violent coup attempt on our democracy by her party’s leader?
Sanders, one of Trump’s former White House press secretaries, announced her gubernatorial bid for Arkansas on Monday just a few short weeks after the U.S. House of Representatives impeached her former boss for “inciting an insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol building that left several citizens dead including a police officer. Notably, 10 Republican House Members joined Democrats in rebuke of Trump’s actions.
In a 7-minute video declaring her run, Sanders called for a return to “law and order,” stroking the fears of right-wing conservatives that a Democratic-controlled executive and legislative branch is seemingly more harmful than the man she used to work for.
According to the American Presidency Project, Mrs. Sanders hosted fewer news conferences than any of the preceding 13 press secretaries. However, Sanders declared, “Our Freedom and the Rule of Law are under attack.”
But not the freedom of the press? This — after she banned several press members, a right granted by the constitution, from attending White House press briefings.
“I took on the radical left, their media, and won.” Sander’s resigned as The White House Secretary after being silenced by Trump for 94 days.
“The radical left’s solution is to impose government control and censorship from the top down, but their socialism and cancel culture will not heal America — it will only further divide and destroy us,” Sanders stated, not realizing her own hypocrisy — banning members of a country that takes pride in having a free press.
She also referenced the Black Lives Matter protests and the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building, seemingly attempting to conflate the two, overlooking that BLM — not the organization — is a modern-day Civil Right movement that calls for a peaceful racial awakening in a Nation that has yet to make amends for its original sin of institutional slavery and the century and a half of racially suppressive policies that impede Black America from reaching its full potential while fearing racists police.
“To remain free, we must have law and order and resolve our difference peacefully,” Sanders said. Nevertheless, she demonized Democrats and dismissed Black constituents’ cries in her state who’ve called for racial justice and did so without providing the context for why 11 peaceful BLM protests erupted in her state last summer, protests that ended with violence coming from police deploying tear gas and rubber bullets. Not one Arkansas BLM protest ended with several deaths nor a police officer.
Notably, nearly 1 in 5 defendants in the U.S. capitol insurrection cases served in the military, including some police officers who aided rioters during the insurrection.
“Everything we love about America is at stake, and with the radical left in control of Washington, your government is the last line of defense,” Sanders stated.
Sanders also ignored the cries of multiple women who came forward and accused former President Trump of sexual misconduct. During her tenure, Sanders stated, “The people of this country, at a decisive election, supported President Trump, and we feel like these allegations have been answered through that process.”
