Another bombshell has dropped in the unraveling saga of Sean “Diddy” Combs, as former Danity Kane member D. Woods steps forward with scathing allegations against the embattled hip-hop mogul. Woods, born Wanita Denise Woodgett, paints a grim picture of her time under Diddy’s wing, describing a culture of control, objectification, and fear while part of the chart-topping girl group he formed on MTV’s Making the Band 3.
Danity Kane in Dark, Scary, Predatory Spaces
In a candid interview with ABC News, Woods alleged that Diddy, 55, constantly reduced her and other women in the industry to mere sex symbols. “Somebody constantly treating you like a piece of meat. Only seeing, only valuing you for your sex appeal,” she recounted. “In some of the environments, it was even scary to be by yourself.”
Woods also appears in Investigation Discovery’s new docuseries, The Fall of Diddy, which premieres today, January 27.
“I see myself standing in those dark, scary, predatory spaces and hearing somebody say some of the most degrading things to me,” the Danity Kane member says.
The series dives into the allegations against the rap icon, who faces multiple lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, abuse, and even gang rape. Last September, Diddy was arrested and denied bail on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges, with his trial set to begin in May.
Resurfaced Video Highlights a Toxic Dynamic
Adding fuel to the fire, a resurfaced video from the mid-2000s shows Diddy fat-shaming Woods during a conversation caught on camera. In the clip, he crudely asks the Danity Kane member, “What’s your stomach looking like? Are you feeling a little thick?” The demeaning remark is now being viewed through the lens of Woods’ recent allegations, further highlighting the power imbalance that existed between the mogul and his protégées.
Woods explained on Good Morning America how Diddy’s constant critiques chipped away at her self-worth: “He did it in different ways with all of us, you know, picking and prodding, just a way to chip and knock away.”
A Pattern of Allegations
D. Woods is not the first former Danity Kane member to call out Diddy. In September, Dawn Richard, another member of the group, filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual abuse. Aubrey O’Day, also a member of the group, publicly supported Cassie after the singer sued Diddy for abuse and rape, tweeting, “I stay trying to tell y’all.”
These allegations follow years of whispers about Diddy’s infamous “White Parties,” where accusations of gang rape and abuse of minors have surfaced in lawsuits. Despite the mounting claims, Diddy has denied all wrongdoing, with his legal team dismissing many of the accusations as “fabricated” and “unsubstantiated.”
The Rise and Fall of Danity Kane
Formed in 2005 on MTV’s Making the Band 3, Danity Kane rose to fame with hits like “Show Stopper” and “Damaged,” releasing two successful albums. However, the group’s meteoric success was marred by internal tensions and Diddy’s management style, leading to multiple breakups and their final disbandment in 2014.
Though they briefly reunited in 2018, the group ceased activity in 2020. Now, with Woods and others speaking out, it seems the story of Danity Kane has taken on a much darker and more complex narrative.
As the trial against Diddy looms, the allegations from his former artists cast a long shadow over his legacy as a music mogul. For the women who once dreamed of stardom under his guidance, their stories are now part of a broader reckoning in the music industry.
